“Signs and symbols rule the world, not words nor laws.”
The mark is one shape that can be read 3 ways.
01
The Great Year
The mark starts with the symbol for Aquarius, because we are entering the age of Aquarius.
23.4°
Earth spins on an axis tilted about 23.4 degrees. The tilt is what gives us the seasons.
The pull of the sun and the moon on the bulge at Earth’s equator makes that tilted axis wobble, the way a spinning top does. It traces one slow circle in the sky.
Today the axis points at Polaris. In about 12,000 years it will point near Vega.
As the axis turns, Earth looks out on a different part of the zodiac. At the spring equinox, the sun stands in front of a different constellation.
Over the centuries, that point moves backward through the 12 constellations of the zodiac.
Astronomers call this the precession of the equinoxes.
72
About 72 years to move 1 degree.
2,150
About 2,150 years in each sign. Astrologers call each one an age.
26,000
About 26,000 years through all 12. One full circuit is called the Great Year, or the Platonic year. The Greek astronomer Hipparchus first measured the shift, more than 2,000 years ago.
Today the equinox sits in Pisces, near its border with Aquarius. When it crosses is disputed, and many astrologers say the age of Aquarius has already begun.
02
Aquarius
The symbol for Aquarius is 2 parallel waves of water.
They stand for the water bearer, pouring out divine knowledge, wisdom and progressive energy to humanity.
03
Turned on its side
We turned the symbol on its side, a familiar sign inverted.
Turned that way, it stands upright, reminiscent of the lightning Zeus carries in Greek myth, a sign of sudden energy and light.
04
Read again
Look again and it reads as 33.
In numerology, 33 is the bridge between thought and creation, between what can be imagined and what can be made.
Numerology treats 11, 22 and 33 as master numbers, and 33 is the highest of the three.
It is called the master teacher, the number of knowledge put to use for other people. Its digits add up to 6, which numerology ties to care and responsibility.
05
In motion
The mark also moves.
About every 30 seconds it breaks apart, through 12 frames in 1.2 seconds, and comes back together as one shape. Hover over the mark at the top of this page to see it.
06
The slab
The slab behind the mark comes from the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film.
In the film the monolith appears each time something takes a leap forward, from the first use of a tool to the journey past Jupiter.
On the mark, the slab stands for that moment, when something new begins.
07
How we work
Those references describe how we work.
We turn the expected around, put the energy to use, and make an idea visible.
The name says the same thing. Chaos goes in, and something clear comes out.
